The formulas
AdSense daily visitors needed = target ÷ 30 ÷ (pageviews per visit × CTR × CPC)
Affiliate clicks needed per month = target ÷ (conversion × order value × commission)
| Monthly target | AdSense (CPC $0.30, CTR 1%, 1.5 pages) | Affiliate (2% conversion, $50 order, 3%) |
|---|---|---|
| $100 | About 741 visitors a day | About 3,333 clicks a month |
| $300 | About 2,222 visitors a day | About 10,000 clicks a month |
| $1,000 | About 7,407 visitors a day | About 33,333 clicks a month |
| $3,000 | About 22,222 visitors a day | About 100,000 clicks a month |
Reading the result
The two income types need very different traffic. Sites with lots of low-intent visitors suit AdSense, while sites with fewer visitors but strong buying-intent posts can suit affiliate links. Change the CPC and conversion boxes to model your own situation.
Setting realistic goals
- New sites often get almost no search traffic for the first several months, so break the goal into stages.
- Traffic accumulates with the number of posts, so track posts published per month too.
- You can combine both income types to reach the same target.
